Hilo Community Chorus is a non-profit 501(c)(3) non-auditioned chorus. Anyone who loves choral singing and is willing to devote two hours each week on Monday nights in rehearsals is invited to join.
The full Chorus generally performs two major concerts a year: a concert of seasonal songs and carols in December, and a classical music concert in the spring.
Volunteers from the Chorus may also participate in various community musical events throughout the year at the University, local churches, and public events.
Rehearsals are on Mondays from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm at University of Hawaii at Hilo Music Building P8-P9. For the December concerts, rehearsals begin in late August; rehearsals for the spring concerts begin in mid-January. Chorus members pay modest dues each season (currently $45/semester) which help to pay their director, Michael Steele, and accompanist Walter Greenwood. Chorus members also purchase their own music at cost from the chorus at the start of each semester (music cost varies, ranging from approx. $5 – $30 depending on program).
