Prior to 2007, the Chorus was a part of a choral union with the University of Hawaii at Hilo Chorus. When Ken Staton returned to UH-Hilo in the early part of the century, the community folk began rehearsing separately from the students, and we performed as a joint chorus until Ken’s retirement. Most of our few individual performances were a part of their programs. The first separate “concert” on record is a pre-concert performance in December of 2007. We were still singing with the University combined group as of December of 2008, although we had our first HCC-only concert in October of that year. The weaning process had begun. -Tom McAlexander
